Amy Schumer is recovering from endometriosis surgery in which she claims her uterus and appendix were removed.
The 40-year-old comedian and actress revealed her recent IVF procedure in an Instagram video posted on Saturday, Sept. 18. Amy spoke with her husband, Chris Fischer, who was filming her from her hospital bed.
“So it’s the morning after my endometriosis surgery, and my uterus has been removed,” the star explained. “The doctor discovered and removed 30 spots of endometriosis.
He removed my appendix because it had been attacked by endometriosis. My uterus was filled with blood, and I’m sore and experiencing gas pains.”
Endometriosis is a female reproductive disorder characterized by the growth of abnormal tissue outside the uterus. While there are more conservative treatments available than a hysterectomy—which fellow endometriosis sufferer Lena Dunham also underwent in 2018—the ailment typically returns even after the affected tissue is removed.
